GROWING PAINS & GROWING POWER
Clean

Historic, traditional denominations like the Christian Methodist Episcopal church feel distressed and confused by patterns of decline in membership and influence. We desperately leap from growth strategy to growth strategy. The solutions though have already been provided, long ago, in the story of a phenomenally fast growing collective of churches, a fellowship that went from 120 members to over 3,120 in just 10 days. And that was all sustained growth.

Their strategies are preserved for us in the book of Acts. This message unpacks and applies the principles and practices that made the Jerusalem church flourish. But you’re not going to like everything they did.

This message was originally delivered for the District Conference of the Birmingham congregations of the CME Church. The title of the sermon is: GROWING PAINS & GROWING POWER.

Listen well.

WE’LL GET THERE BECAUSE WE AIN’T DRIVING

Ah, the family road trip. See the country. Explore the world together. Get on each others’ nerves and argue every grudge and misunderstanding in your family.

In the closing verses of Exodus 4, before He returned to Egypt, before He confronted Pharaoh, Moses took his family on a road trip.

It wasn’t pretty.

The lessons of their misadventure speak an important Word to our church families about how we get to where God wants us to go. The title of this message in the Exodus series is: WE’LL GET THERE BECAUSE WE AIN’T DRIVING.

A BLESSING FOR THE GATEKEEPERS

Long ago a man of God rebelled against his fellowship and split the church of his day. In a spectacular display of Divine wrath, God destroyed the spiritual mutineers. Generations later, the Lord used a great king to redeem the descendants of that disgraced rebel. And that is why churches have ushers.

Learn the whole story and how what happens at the doors of the church affects every one of us every day.

The sermon is about: A BLESSING FOR THE GATEKEEPERS.

Do YOUR Job for Jesus

I get tired of waiting, and so do you. If the truth were told (and it is in this sermon), sometimes we get tired of waiting on God. What do we do then?

The answers can be found in the story of a day at the beach. In John 21, the disciples get tired of waiting for Jesus. What they do and what Jesus does about it, teach us how to handle our moments of patience-fatigue.

The title of the message is Do YOUR Job for Jesus.

OPEN THE DOOR & LET PEACE IN

We build walls to secure our peace, but we don’t have peace. We erect barriers to preserve our peace but we don’t have peace. We strive against circumstances and characters that cause us trouble but we still don’t feel at peace.

The disciples encountered this same puzzle. In the aftermath of the Resurrection, Jesus showed them the answer, the key to attaining and maintaining true peace.

Listen to the answer in a sermon from John chapter 20. Learn how to OPEN THE DOOR & LET PEACE IN.
